AMR Winter 2012 Update

It’s been a while! 2012 was a relatively quiet year for AMR, with only two releases the entire period. While “Flying Feeling” and the Deep Explorer collab “Love’s All Right” were our best-selling records to date, we felt that we needed to pull back and reflect a little about the label’s direction. We felt that, even though we’ve kept our definitive brand of deepness, that we might be resting on our laurels a bit.

Well, lazy is something that AMR is most certainly not. To that end, 2013 looks to be an exciting time for the label. It’s the year we step far out of our own comfort zone into all things deep. We’ve lined up a few talents we’ve been itching to work with for quite a while now. Not only that, we’ve helped them see a deeper side of themselves than even they imagined they could.

The first release, “Thunder” by Chicago Skyway (AMR-29R) is a perfect example. As you know, Skyway (MOS, Uzuri, Eargasmic) is very much into the Chicago jack track sound. But back in 2010, he came up with a deep-sterpiece in “Pilsen Sunrise” on “The Pancake Sessions”. Well, this is an extension of that – Skyway put together some super-deep jams on this release, and Malcolm Moore joins in on the fun with an eclectic remix of the title track.

Also due up is a project years in the making. AMR and The Lady Blacktronika (Sound Black, Bu-Mako, Deep Explorer) join forces in “Pussy Galore” (AMR-23R), another EP where the artist steps well clear of her creative conveniences to put together tracks that are both ultra deep and work on the floor.

AMR also teams up with LAAK, the duo of deepness out of Birmingham, UK in “Our Ways,” (AMR-31R) another deep journey into the center of their being. Another UK duo, Bittersuite (Peng, Batti Batti), drops a release later this year.

You might wonder what happened with Rezkar’s (Running Back, Skylax) “Daydreamer” (AMR-27E) and Malcolm Moore’s “Perspective EP” (AMR-28E). We will combine those two releases into a double LP entitled “Life Out On The Fringe” (AMR-27L) featuring tracks from both EPs, as well as additional, floor friendly joints. We plan to include a full cover with this one, the first full cover since Trackmachine’s “Cosmic Soul” in 2008.

We’ll have samples and cover art for all of these EPs up within a week or two. We’re also planning a few events for later this year, but we’ll keep all that under wraps, for now.

We’re looking forward to sharing the fruits of our musical labor. We feel that our adjustments have put us on the right track to convey our perennial message: The Deepness Is You.
