Javier Álvarez a.k.a. Above Smoke, producer from Madrid, is co-owner and master of sound quality for the underground label Deep Explorer Music (mastering, mixing and additional production). He is a collaborator with other labels like Minuendo, Yore, Fear of Flying, Quintessential, Cornuta Sound, (among others) with tracks, remixes and production.

He began producing in 2000. Initially, Above Smoke was involved in the instrumental hip-hop scene, with elements from jazz and soul but later he took on other styles like minimal, house, electro and broken beats. An example of this is his first maxi Hysteria EP (Deep Explorer 004) released in May of 2005.

Various remixes and some tracks later, Above Smoke worked with Dubbyman on his best work to date. Jazz Pollution EP Sybaris recordings, a division of the Deep Explorer label created exclusively to edit the tracks that represent the most relaxed part of the Detroit sound. The name of the label takes its name from the club where they play every week.

He has released more than 10 EPs and many remixes for worldwide labels.
